Do Sleep Consultants Accept Insurance?

Did you know that sleep consulting services can be covered by insurance?

Not in the usual way, though – no sleep consultant can actually accept and bill through insurance because we are not medical professionals. To accept a claim, insurance companies need medical diagnosis codes, which we do not provide.

That being said, clients can pay for sleep consulting services from their Flexible Savings Accounts or Health Savings Accounts.

Using your FSA or HSA account to pay for sleep consulting with pre-tax dollars sounds pretty great, right??

Before you go ahead and buy a sleep package, you will first need to contact your FSA/HSA administrator. Check and see if you are eligible to use our services and if pre-approval is necessary. Ask if “sleep consulting,” “sleep hygiene,” “sleep environment,” or “sleep education” is covered. Sleep consulting services are sometimes categorized under “Health Institute Fee” or “Newborn Care.” It’s important for you to do your research and make sure it’s covered before purchasing. The last thing you want is for them to say it’s not covered after you’ve already moved forward.

They may want you to obtain a letter of medical necessity from your pediatrician, as well as a detailed invoice (which I can provide). Sometimes they may also want to do a sleep apnea study. Make sure you do your due diligence so they don’t deny you!

With the FSA, you will likely pre-pay and submit the receipt for reimbursement. With the HSA, you can use your HSA debit card to pay directly for services.

The results of sleep consulting are SO worth it and a great way to spend your FSA/HSA dollars.
